Beautiful Day Layout

Today I wanted to share with you the 2nd layout I created for my application to teach at this year's Close To My Heart convention.   Due to a new format, they cut the field of teachers back from 32 to just 18.  I was not selected this year but I will try again next year!

My oldest daughter traveled to Louisville, KY with a couple of friends back in February to run in a race on her 23rd birthday.  My sister lives in Louisville and she has a daughter Kirsti's age so all got together the evening after the race and celebrated her birthday.  My sister even made her a cake.  It was a special day so I wanted to be sure to capture the memory for her.

For this layout, I used our Claire paper pack, chevron ribbon, burlap ribbon, wooden mini medley accents and lots of wooden trinkets shapes!   I had not used the wooden trinket shapes yet so I had a lot of fun using them on this layout.  This layout is Sketch #1 from the Make It From Your Heart Book.  On the right page I used the wooden chevron trinket shapes to point from the cake, to the lighting of the cake and then to big crencendo-blowing out of the candles!    My title was created with the Color Ready Canvas Alphabet and Outdoor Denim Ink.  I cut the word "DAY" with the Artiste Cricut Cartridge and used the piece of paper instead of the actual letters.  Here are a few close up of more layout details:

At the lower corner of the left page, I used the wooden flourishes along with a burlap flower I created.   I topped the burlap with a wooden button and then scattered a few more wooden buttons around the page.  I tied a piece of the hemp baker's twine (included with the Wooden Mini Medley Accents) in each button.

I wanted to capture the memories, so I created a journaling pocket with the Artiste Cricut Cartridge.  Pull out the card and read about the special memories of the day.   Another wooden accent from the Wooden Mini Medley's decorates the front of the pocket.   The two flags were stamped onto Blush Cardstock with Hollyhock ink with stamps from the Chantilly Birthday Cardmaking stamp. (This is included with the Chantilly Cardmaking Workshop on the Go Kit)

I created a stamped border along the top of the pocket with a stamp from the Girl's Rock set.

Here you can see the little bow I made using the burlap ribbon.  I tied the center together with a piece of Natural Hemp twine and added a tiny wooden heart from the Color Ready Wooden Trinket Shapes.  The bow is layered on top of a flower stamped onto Blush cardstock with Hollyhock ink.

I hope you enjoyed my layout as much as I had fun putting it together.   The Claire paper pack became one of my favorite of the books and I just LOVE those little Color Ready Wooden Trinket Shapes!
