A Reason to SMILE

Oh wow.....  It's been over a week since I've posted here!  It's has been a whirlwind of activity since I got home from Utah.  I'm afraid for the next year it is going to continue to be a whirlwind.  It looks like I'll be planning a wedding!!

While in Cuba for a study abroad trip my youngest daughter got engaged! What a great memory this will always be for Kayli and John.   Certainly a trip to be remembered.   Several months ago, my very good friend and fellow consultant Jaime Llewellyn created a beautiful page that was perfect for displaying in Close To My Heart's Designed Decor Shadowbox frame.  I've been wanting to offer this as a Girls Night Out project for some time but it never seemed to be the right time.  Well - I think now this is the PERFECT time!  Jaime shared her design with me (she is so talented) and I changed the colors a bit.

All of the cuts on this page are from the Artfully Sent Cricut Cartridge.  Yeah - it's that cartridge for creating cards and Picture My Life cards.  SO NOT!!  See what you can do when you think outside the box?   This page features some heat embossing using templates and also some dry embossing using the Dot Embossing Folder.  Check out a close up of the flowers....

I will be offering this class as my February Girl's Night Out Event.
Date:  Friday, February 26
Time:  6:30 pm
Place: StampinHeaven Craft Room

Cost:  $12.00 (does not include the frame but the frame can be added for $34)
I only have 7 spots left!

MUST RSVP and Pre-Pay by February 15

Please email me if you would like to attend:

2016 Seasonal Expression 1 New Product Blog Hop

Have you heard the news?  Our new Seasonal Expressions for 2016 is out!  Today our SOTM blog Hoppers is hosting a New Product Blog Hop.  This blog hop will showcase some of the new products that have just been released!  If you came from Jennifer Dykstra's blog you are on the right track!  Look for the next blog link at the bottom of my post.  Keep hopping and when you get back to me you will know you completed the hop!

One of the fun new products in our SE1 is Thin Cuts!  For this hop I'm featuring the new stamp "Stuck on You" and their coordinating thin cuts!

I used my watercolor paints, brushes and Watercolor paper to color the cactus images and flowers. The flower pots were stamped with Eggplant and Desert Sand Ink.   All of the images on this card had a matching thin cut.  I used my cuttlebug along with a C-plate and a B-Plate and ran the thin cuts through.  One helpful hint - I used washi tape to hold the thin cut in place.  (who knew that washi tape has as many uses as Duct Tape!)

Products used:
Stuck On You - C1643*new
Stuck on You Thin Cuts - Z3200*new
White Daisy Cards and Envelopes Value Pack - X254
Whimsy Fundamental Cardstock- Thistle - Z3127

2016 CTMH Team Builders

This picture above represents over 900 years of combined service to Close To My Heart!

I've just returned from my very first Team Builders event hosted by Close To My Heart.  The event was held in Salt Lake City, Utah from Thursday to Friday.  Over 60 Leaders from Close To My Heart attended this event and I was so honored to be among them.  In smaller settings such as this it is easy to get close and personal with the Executive Team and staff.   We had jammed packed sessions on Time Management, Team Recognition, Leadership, Mentoring and even some creative time.  The meetings at times, were frank, personal, enlightening and entertaining.   I learned so much and I'm anxious to put into place the many tips I came away with.

The most special time of the entire event was when we were surprised with a visit by Jeanette Lynton, CEO of Close To My Heart on the last day.   She is such an inspiration.  You can tell without a doubt that she loves this company and deeply cares about every consultant.

I flew out of Nashville on my Birthday.  Since I spent most of the entire day up in the air traveling, my roomies made sure I celebrated.  We went to the nearby Cheesecake Factory and they treated me to dinner!!    Krista and Jamie are two of my dear friends that I meet years ago at the Spa Retreat we all won. If you follow my blog you should be very familiar with them by now!  I talk about my Spa Girls all the time.  It is nice to get to see them more than once a year at convention!

Krista, Jaime and Me!
We got alot of training information but we did get some creative time too!  At the first creative session we were given a sheet of watercolor paper and a sheet of white daisy cardstock.  We had a box of stamps at our table along with some watercolor paints and ShinHan Markers.   Our art work was to surround the word "Meraki".   It was really hard for me to get started.  I didn't know whether I wanted to use watercolors or markers.  Watercoloring for me is still new and usually I don't like what I do.  I finally decided on the watercolors because I needed the practice!  This was out of my comfort zone.  Here is my work of 'art' -

The other creative class we had was called Brushed Lettering.  This is something that has gained alot of popularity of late.  We were given 3 different types of brush tip pens, a practice pad and a practice sheet.  Below are the practice sheets.  We traced over the strokes - just like we did in kindgergarten when you learned to write letters.  When I was young, I used to do calligraphy alot.  So I really thought this brushed lettering thing would be easy.  It is not.  I need to keep practicing - alot.... before my letters look like they should.

One of the highlights of the event was our treat to Waffle Love.  We had all heard about Waffle Love.   Close To My Heart treats their Home Office Staff every year with Waffle Love and they like to flaunt it on their blog... ha ha.... making us all jealous.   Before the Team Builders event they announced that they would be bringing Waffle Love to the event.  When Waffle Love arrived they announced that they would treating US and we could order whatever we wanted.   SO generous of CTMH and sooooo YUMMY!!

I met so many wonderful ladies at this event.  I loved it that during our meals (CTMH provided a breakfast and 2 wonderful lunches) that the Executive Staff would come and sit with us and we could talk so openly about everything.   It is so hard to put into words the experience that I had at Team Builders.  It was fabulous!  Thank you Close To My Heart for making this possible!

In closing - here are just a few more pictures from the event.  Enjoy!

Jaime, Krista, Monica Wihongi and me!

(She is sooo talented!)

We found some chocolate to feed our brainstorming.
We stayed up past mid-night one night sharing ideas.

Everyday Life My Crush Pages in Layouts!

Today, I have arrived in Salt Lake City Utah!  I'm so excited to be attending a Teambuilders event hosted by Close To My Heart.  I will get to meet up with many of my consultant friends that I only get to see at convention.   I'm actually rooming with two of my Spa Girlfriends (Krista and Jaime) that I met on my very first trip to Utah when we won a spa retreat with CTMH back in 2010.

I'm looking forward to learning new things and being inspired by so many successful consultants in this company.  I wanted to make a special gift for my roommates.  And as in my usual fashion, I'm very last minute so that means I didn't have time to order things.  I wanted to create them something with new products and I just happened to have an extra set of Everyday Life My Crush Pages.  I'm thinking.... what can I do with that?  Create Layouts of course!!    So I thumbed through the pages and pulled out three pages with large quotes/titles.   Then I pulled out more pages that coordinated with that title.  Next, I set to work creating the layouts.   You will see as you scroll down through the layouts I used the very same layout pattern - just different papers and cardstock.  They all use one of the Charlotte B&T patterns as their base page.   The flowers adorning the pages were cut with the Artistry cartridge and the 'file' piece was cut using the Artbooking cartridge.

On the layouts above I added Gold Fundamental Assortment hearts and dots along with Pixie Twine.

I used Glacier Twine and silver Playful Puffies for accents on these pages.

For this one I went back and pulled out some retired cardstock - Petal.   It matches perfectly with these pages.  I also used Thistle ribbon (also retired)  along with some glitter purple hearts and silver Playful Puffies.  It was such a perfect match!

I had a lot of fun creating these layouts.   Don't worry, I still have LOTS of My Crush pages left!  Just goes to show that they don't all have to go into the same book!  Add them to a layout or two or three!

I'm off to have some fun and learn new things!

Animal Greetings Valentines

It's not too early to start thinking about Valentines Day!  Recently a friend of mine asked me to design a Valentine Workshop for kids as a fundraiser for her mission trip.  I knew immediately the stamp to use!  Close To My Heart's Animal Greetings!  Not only are the animals adorable color-able images with cute sayings, it has a special purpose too!

Animal Greetings - D1679
For every Animal Greetings stamp set that is purchased, $7.00 will be donated to Operation Smile. Operation Smile is an organization that provides free, life-changing surgery that repairs smiles and reshapes lives, one child at a time. Since 2008, Close To My Heart has provided support to change the lives of over 1,500 children and their families.

For my workshop, I kept it simple, using our Fundamental Cardstock in Whimsy and Enchantment colors to make twelve 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 flat cards.  I layered the cardstock so that the opposite side with the pattern provides a mat for the stamped image.  These images can be colored with markers, watercolor paints, color pencils - any coloring method you choose!  At my workshop we will be using the Watercolor pencils and blending pen technique.  It is easy enough that anyone can do!  The final touch for Valentines is a little red heart placed onto each card.

To create these cards, here are the basic supplies needed:
Animal Greetings Stamp - D1679
White Daisy Cardstock - 1385
Paper Fundamentals Cardstock - either Whimsy (Z3127) or Adventure (3125)
Red Hearts - Z2009
Black Ink - Z2105
2x2 Acrylix Block - Y1003

To color I used:
Watercolor pencils - 3505
Blending Pen - 3175

If you would like to create these cards and order these products, please "JOIN" Leslianna's Missions to Mexico party.  I will be donating my commission on all orders placed through this party!

National Papercrafting Month - Live Your Day Blog Hop

Did you know that January is National Papercrafting Month?  Close To My Heart has an special product that you can get ONLY during the month of January!  The Picture My Life - Live Your Day collection was designed to coordinate perfectly with the sensational Everyday Life™ 2016 Planner Pages and My Crush® Everyday Life Pages, so you can seamlessly integrate pocket scrapbooking into your 2016 planner. Whether in the planner or on their own, these cards make it easy to preserve your everyday moments all year long.

To give you some great ideas on uses for this fabulous product, the CTMH Stamp of the Month Blog Hoppers have put together a fun hop featuring this product!  If you have come from Terrie Shortsleeve's Blog you are on the right track!  The hop is a big circle so when you get back to me you will know you have completed the hop!

For my project, I combined the Live You Day cards with the Everyday Life My Crush pages to create a Special Days Album that we will be making at my upcoming January Girl's Night Out Event.  This album can be used to record special dates - Birthday, Anniversaries and other special events.  Never forget a special date again!

I used pages from Everyday Life My Crush to create the album cover.  I cut the flowers with CTMH's Artistry Cartridge and added the new Treasured Puffies for accents.  Inside the album, I placed the each month's 3x4 PML card along with a Birthdays and Journaling card into a Memory Protector. There are two months per protector. For instance, July on the front side and August would be on the back.  Then I cut a tab for each month protector page so that it could be found easily.  Inter-mixed through out the book are My Crush pages and more memory protectors holding 4x6 PML Live Your Day Cards.   You can add photos, journal about special events, make this book your own Special Day Album!

Now it is time to hop on over to Michelle Battitori's Blog and see what she has to share!

January Stamp of the Month Blog Hop - Beloved Bouquet

Welcome to the January Stamp of the Month Blog Hop! This month we are featuring Beloved Bouquet. This is a set of 14 stamps! If you have come here from Haley Dyer's Blog, you are on the right path! The blog hop is a great big circle, so you can start here and work your way around. If you get lost along the way, you'll find the complete list of participating consultant's HERE.

If you love base and shade stamping, this stamp is for you!

I used Hollyhock and Pomegranate inks for my roses.  For three of the roses, I used second generation stamping with Pomegranate ink for the base of the flower and 1st generation for the outline.  For the lighter rose I used the same technique only this time with Hollyhock ink.  The small rose was stamped with Hollyhock ink for the base and I used Pomegranate ink to stamp the outline.  There are so many way to mix and match your inks with these stamps.  It was fun to play around with them.

Other products used:
Quatrefoil Embossing Folder
Sequins Gold Assortment
Gold Foil Tape
Fern Exclusive Ink

This stamp is just $5 when you spend $50 in Close to My Heart products
during the month of January!
