You've Got A Friend - Easel Card

Image
I've started a new class once a month called Technique Tuesday.  Coming up on May 13th my Technique Tuesday class will be featuring a simple easel card.   Everyone will make this card which uses the upcoming May Stamp of the Month and the Jubilee Paper. I used the Artiste cricut cartridge to cut the Jubilee paper into a fun rosette behind the apple. I love this paper!  It just makes me want to go on a picnic! If you are local to me and want to take the this Technique Tuesday class, just let me know!  Class Fee is $5 and you can pay at the class.  I just need to know by May 10th if you are coming! I'm submitting this card for the Friday Mashup Challenge -  Fun Fold Card . Supplies Used: May Stamp of the Month - You've Got a Friend (Available in May!) Lots of Chevrons!

Image
Chevrons are everywhere these days.  I took a break from Christmas Cards on Sunday to create this Birthday card full of chevrons when I saw the sketch from Friday Mashup .  I chose to go mostly black and white with just a splash of aqua dots on my card.  I used a variety of stamps on my card: Holiday Tags (D1560) for the Happy Birthday.  The frame was cut with the Artiste Cricut Cartridge. One Way Borders (C1561) for the chevron border Artiste Cricut Collection - (Z1790) for the pinwheel Other items used: For Always Paper - X7165B Black Cardstock - 1386 White Cardstock - 1385 Black Baker's Twine - Baker's Twine Neutral Assortment - Z1701 Aqua Dots - Z1853 Black Ink - Z2105            Holiday Tags One Way Borders Friday Mashup Sketch       I'm also entering this card into Crazy 4 Challenges - Use Black & White with a Splash of color.

Come Unto Me.....

I had a pretty productive day beginning about 7:30 this morning.  Saturday is my day to sleep in since I get up at 5am during the week to get ready for work.  But this morning I woke up about 6:30 and couldn't get back to sleep so I finally gave up and got up.  I went into the kitchen to fix myself some breakfast but got side tracked by my 'tupperware cabinet'.  You know the cabinet.  It's the biggest cabinet in your kitchen that is full of every size and shape of plastic ware - containers, bowls and lids!  My cabinet had gotten to the shape where you quickly open the door - throw something in and close the door before something else falls out.   I opened the cabinet and sat down and begin taking everything out.  I was determined to keep only the items that had a lid, and get rid of anything that I no longer used.   I probably threw away about 40 lids!  I guess I had this fear that a container would show up looking for it's matching lid ...

Brick Wall Technique with Home of the Brave

Image
The Friday Mashup Challenge this week was really cool and I couldn't wait to try my stamps with it! It's called the Brickwall Technique.  I knew I wouldn't get to it until later on Saturday but I mentioned it to one of my really crafty friends at lunch on Friday and told her she needed to check it out and give it a try!   She did and she texted me Friday night saying she did the brick thing and wasn't sure she was liking it!  She had all the pieces cut up and the putting it back together was a pain.  I suggested she call her daughter in to put it back together for her - sometimes kids are great at puzzles.  She sent me a pic and I really liked her finished product.  Not sure she is going to post it though.   I told her she should! I made sure that I gave this technique a try too since I encouraged her to do it! (She might not take me up on my suggestions next time!)   Here is my finished Brickwall Technique card: After my friend's strugg...

What a busy time of the year it is for me!  Graduation is coming up soon - May 18 to be exact.  Plus, in the midst of getting ready for that, we are in the middle of the High School District Softball tournament!  Rain came in Friday night and set in for the weekend so the games were cancelled on Saturday.  My first thought was "YEAH!  I'll spend all day Saturday in my scrap room and create! Nothing better to do on a rainy day!".  Or so I thought....  I ended up spending ALL DAY Saturday shopping with my daughter looking for the required "dark dress" that she needed to wear underneath her graduation gown.  So, we set out about 10:30 to look for a black dress.  Finding a black dress (or even a dark color dress) in May is not easy!   Most that we did find, looked better on the hanger than actually on!  Too long, too short, etc.  FINALLY about 3:30 that afternoon we found the dress.  By the time I got home, I was no longer in ...

Later Sk8r - Another Sneak Peek with a Birthday Card!

Image
It's been a few days since I've posted because I actually haven't been in my craft room.  I told myself that I HAD to get all my tax stuff together before I could return and play.   It was a daunting task that took me two days but by Saturday afternoon I was back in my favorite room! After finishing up some upcoming Stamp of the Month projects (to be revealed on Feb 1) I pulled out another new paper pack to play with.   This time it's Later Sk8r (X7167B) .   Although I don't have any boys to be scrapping I do LOVE this paper and I can absolutely make it work for my needs because I love the patterns and colors used.   I went back to the  Seize the Birthday challenge for this card I made because this week they are making BOY birthday cards.   The sketch is same as last week - you can see the GIRL birthday card I made with Chantilly paper HERE . I used Slate cardstock as my background but I added some texture to it by using the background stamp ...

Sneak Peak of Buzz and Bumble

Image
One of the BEST things about being a Close To My Heart consultant is that we get a one month preview for the new products to be released in February.  I received my shipment of new products yesterday and was up late last night trying to get everything organized before I started playing.  The first thing I wanted to play with was the new Buzz & Bumble kit.  I just love that name!   I ordered the Workshop On the Go Kit which comes with some REALLY cute matching accents - little wooden bees. flowers and wax seals (not really wax but they sure look real!)..  Our Workshop On the Go Kits include an exclusive D-size stamp, instruction brochure, 6 B&T pattern papers, and 8 sheets of cardstock and coordinating embellishments.  After I created the 2 layouts for the kit I had plenty of paper left over to create even more. I love this week's Friday Mashup Challenge and thought Buzz & Bumble was perfect for it!  The challenge was to make a proj...

Whooo's Your Valentine - CARD!

Image
Hello there!  I had intended to do a lot of creating this weekend.  I even printed out several challenges that I wanted to try out.  But as all things go, I never got in my craft room until Sunday and that was just to clean up a mess!   There used to be an old Lazy Boy recliner in there. It got moved in there when we purchased a new chair for our family room.  So we moved the old Lazy Boy to a corner of my craft room.  It was good for stacking stuff on and behind!  I came home from my Saturday Hostess Club to find that my husband had moved it out to the sunroom.  Hmmm... he moved all the exercise equipment to a corner to make room for the chair.  That is where I found him - rocking away watching TV.  Doesn't look like any New Years resolution was made about exercising! So anyway, when he moved the chair it revealed my huge pile of "I'll deal with it later" stuff.  So I set about trying to actually deal with it.  That brought ...

Friday Mash-up Meets Color Throwdown

Image
Hello there! I got home from my annual MAD trip on Wednesday. After getting the 'mundane' house things accomplished (and catching up on sleep!), I finally had time to play along with some challenges! Armed with a list of challenges I had printed out, I went to work.   This week's Color Throwdown color drew me in right away because they had some colors from my FAVORITE paper pack - Flirty (X7160B) .  Note to self - Purchase another pack of this beautiful paper!!  I combined these colors with a sketch from Friday Mash-up for this card. I added Pear cardstock to Flirty's color's of Goldrush and Flirty Raspberry.  A great combination!   I used the new Artiste Cricut Cartridge for the banner, balloons and star.   The Artiste collection includes a stamp set that perfectly matches all three!  The banner is just the size for the Dimensional Elements - Banners that are ALSO included in the Artiste collection.   I used the Art Phi...

A Starburst of Encouragement for Friday Mashup

Image
This week's Friday Mashup has a technique I haven't tried before - Starburst Technique.  I thought it made a really pretty design so I wanted to give it a try.   My card is going to a friend who is going through tough times right now.  I wanted to send her words of encouragement and the starburst design to me says "Things will be brighter".  I hope the colors of the card will brighten her day and cheer her up. I used Flirty paper (X7160B) for my card and accented it with Color Ready Wooden Arbor Shapes (Z1765) and a flower from Just Blooms Floret Paper Shapes (Z1764) .  The Olive ribbon is from the Mini Medley Accents - Olive Collection (Z1489).  The sentiment is from the W ords of Comfort stamp set (C1524) . Here is the Friday Mashup Sketch : The instructions for creating the starburst can be found here .   I altered mine just a bit because the card I was making was a little bit larger (4 1/4 x 5 1/2) than the one is the demonst...

Misty Snowman

Image
Well I didn't get much scrap therapy in yesterday.  It was late when I finally did get in there.  I started out attempting to do the challenge from Friday Mash-up which was to Create a project with a snowman and/or use their colors combo  - which would have been Blush, Twilight and Grey Wool in the Close To My Heart color world.   I had a snowman in mind I wanted to use but when I went to get it I couldn't find it.   I finally decided it must have gone to my sale box!  But I did find another one to use.   I decided I would use the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches .   I had so much trouble coming up with something I liked using the colors from Friday Mashup.  It was late and my brain just couldn't get past the traditional colors for Winter and Christmas.  I finally threw aside my Blush cardstock and stuck with Grey Wool and Twilight. I used Close To My Heart's Wonderland (X7146B) paper for my background.   I also used my spra...
