Mixing Fundamental Papers

Image
Today is my youngest daughter's birthday so of course I created her birthday card!   I wanted to use a mix of fundamentals so chose papers from Whimsy and Basics papers.  I based my card design off a design I found on Pinterest created by Denise Tarlington.  It's really a simple design which made the card very easy!  I used the Thistle and Crystal Blue papers from Whismy and Charcoal designs from Basics.  Basic papers really do go with ANY of our paper packs.  It's my favorite pack out of the four (Whimsy, Adventure, Enchantment and Basics).  I cut a few succulents, my daughter's favorite, from our Flower Market Cricut cartrigde.  I used the lighter tone of Thistle for the base and Charcoal cardstock for the outline.   Since this is a BIRTHDAY card of course I had to add sparkle so I used our Clear Shimmer pen on the succulents.  I can't believe that my camera actually picked up the sparkles!   I kn...

Carnival Fun

Image
This month Close To My Heart will be featuring the Magical Paper.  You may already be seeing it popping up all over instagram, facebook and blogs.   The paper pack is so much fun and can be used in a variety of ways.   Last week I shared a mini book I created with a piece of paper from Magical. Today, I want to share some cards.   I created the three layouts from the Magical Workshop Your Way kit and had plenty of paper left over to create the cards that were also included in the instructions.  The cards shown in the guide use the Fairytale Birthday stamp and look like this: But I decided I wanted to use a different stamp set for my cards.  So I cut the papers exactly the same but changed up my stamp and used the Carnival Fun stamp and thin cuts! I also used the little M size stamp - Bitty Birthday (M1144).   I think they turned out quite cute!! The Magical Paper will be available through the end of August 31 but I wouldn't wait...

Another November Birthday!

Image
This time it is my husband's birthday!  He loves to hunt so it is only fitting that I create a card with a deer on it.  I had fun making this one.  I love it that our new Artistry Cricut Cartridge has a deer head on it!  So far, this may be this biggest deer he has seen all season! This card is all cardstock so I gave the pieces some type of texture.  I dug around and found an old texture tool I had to brush some ink onto the deer and the antlers.  Next, I used my woodgrain embossing folder on the mount behind the deer (another Artistry shape) and I used the striped embossing folder on the Outdoor Denim piece of cardstock.  The birthday banner is also cut from the Artistry cartridge.   The birthday sentiment is from Belated Birthday (B1442) which is now retired. Now that all my November birthdays are over, I guess I can start concentrating on my Christmas Shopping!!

My Baby is 21!

Image
Wow.... Time sure does fly by!!  My baby turned 21 today.  We had an early celebration last night because she has such a busy schedule!!  She is SO busy in fact, that when I asked her where she wanted to go eat for her birthday celebration (this is standard tradition in our house) she told me she just wanted a home cooked meal.   In addition to her home cooked meal and home made birthday cake - just standard chocolate with buttercream frosting - I made her this card. I loved this hexagon stamp (Hexagonal Patterns) and just had to have it.  It's been in my box since August and this was the first time I've used it!  I cut out all three sizes of hexagons and stamped them all up in lagoon, Pear, Black and Poppy.  But when I finally decided on my card design, I was down using only the smallest hexagon and just Lagoon, Pear and Black inks.   Sometimes too many choices can make things difficult!  I used my Hexagon Embossing Folder to cre...

50th Birthday - Artfully Sent

Image
Today is my baby sister's 50th Birthday!  Guess that tells you at least how old I am!  This is the 2nd birthday card I made this past week. The first one I shared on Wednesday for another sister.  After I completed her card I was stumped as what to do for the other Birthday card.  Then I remembered that this was her big 5-0!  And guess what?!  The Artfully Sent cricut cartridge has a great Over the Hill card!  I pulled it into my Design Space and just started cutting.  It came together so quickly! I used Confetti Wishes paper and found some unused compliments from another project that I had done.  I used one large compliment for the front of the card and added some strips of Canary, Thistle and Crystal Blue cardstock here: Here is the "STAR" of this card - the inside!  I used a piece of Glitter paper from the Purple Glitter Paper (Z1992) (there are three shades) for the "50" and the banner.    The candles on th...

Lovely Birthday

Image
July is a month full of birthday's in my family - two of my sisters have birthdays!  With convention earlier this month and then a frenzy of planning once I got home, these birthdays about slipped away before I realized it!  I had to put away my new stuff and concentrate on the 2 upcoming birthdays. First I'm sharing the card I created for my sister Suzan. Today is her birthday! Although we live in the same town our lives have been so busy we don't see each other that often.  She is a new grandmother so I'm sure that every spare moment she has, she is spending time with her adorable little grandson.  I don't blame her... he is such a cutie with chubby cheeks that makes you want to smooch all over him!    For this card, I pulled out my Brushed paper pack and my Lovely Birthday stamp step.  It was fun coloring the flowers with my ShinHan Touch Twin markers.   I love the Brushed Paper!  This paper pack, the pink glitter gems an...

Today is my dear sweet Grandma's 98th Birthday!!  She just recently moved from her family home where she was born and raised to an apartment for Seniors.   Not an Assisted Living mind you.... an apartment complex for 55 and up!!   She loves getting cards from me so I try to send one to her often.  I created this card from the Blossom paper pack and used the Shower Flowers stamp to create bunches of flowers.   The flowers match the those in the paper.  I hope all the colors make her happy. The Blossom paper, compliments and Coral Reef Sequins will be retiring at the end of August!  These are now on a While Supplies Last basis so if you really like this paper, be sure to get it before it is gone forever! Blossom - Sneak Peek

Image
Today I got to play with some new product that is coming in April.  (One month product pre-view is just another little perk for being a Close To My Heart Consultant!)  The new Cardmaking WOTG kit in Seasonal Expressions 2 is a MUST HAVE.  When I got my first peek at the kit I knew I had to have it.  The cards were beautiful but the stamp set alone is ADORABLE!  I had to have it.  It's been sitting on my desk for about a week now and I had so may other things I had to do first.  I was dying to play with it. The kit comes with plenty of supplies and a cutting guide that shows you how to make 5 cards each for 3 different designs.   I always like to make the 3 design just one time and then I will change it up a bit and create my own cards with the supplies I have left in the kit. Here are the three cards I created as per the kit instructions: Next I created a card using the flowers stamped in Lagoon and Glacier.  The little washi tap...

Happy Birthday!

Image
Today is my oldest daughter's birthday!  My my my how time sure flies!  I can't believe that she is now a beautiful young woman.  This is the first time EVER that I have not been with her on her birthday.   An AMAZING opportunity came up for me and my husband to take our very first trip to Hawaii thanks to Close to My Heart!    We did celebrate an early birthday with her before we left.  I am sure she is getting alot more wishes today from her friends and family.  She might as well drag it out and take advantage of the all the Birthday Wishes because it only happens once a year! Everything was sneaking up on me so quickly and I realized that I needed to get her card made early! I wanted the card to be a little more sophisticated this time so I chose to go with a black and white theme with flowers.  I used my new vine embossing folder for the background.  I stamped the flowers with the Pretty Petals (C1599)  stamp set.  This s...

Home Made Ice Cream Card

Image
Yesterday was my Dad's Birthday so I needed to make him a card.  I was working on a really nice card using my new Artfully Sent Cartridge.   As I was telling my husband about the card I was making (he has to humor me sometimes when there are no other crafty people around to listen to my excitement) he said "You should make him a card that is a ice cream bucket". The reason for this suggestion is backed up by a good story.   For as long as I can remember, my summer time memories were filled with home made ice cream.  My mom and dad have always loved making it and they are very particular about their ice cream makers.   They always had the one with the heavy cedar bucket and the motor that had ALL metal parts  - not cheap plastic parts like so many things are made of today.  Most ice cream buckets today are even plastic! When their ice cream maker quick working (after many many years of use) my sisters and I searched high and low for another one to rep...

Sneak Peek - A Confetti Wishes Birthday

Image
Today I'm sharing a card I made using the new Confetti Wishes paper from Close To My Heart Annual Inspirations book along with a few other new products that will be released in August.   This paper is so much fun!! My great uncle turns 90 next week and his family is throwing a big party!  When I say '90' don't you dare think wheelchairs, nursing homes and canes!   He still lives at home, travels... ALOT and even has a cabin that he and his sons have been rebuilding up in Canada.  He is a World War II vet and always has lots of stories to share.  When people talk about favorite uncles, my Great Uncle Ed always come to mind.  I wish I could join in the party this weekend but I had other obligations already on my calendar.  So, I created this fun card to send him Birthday Wishes. The printed paper is from the new Confetti Wishes paper.  Using the Artbooking cartridge, I cut the cupcake base from our new  Canary Cardstock and ...

An Ivy Lane Birthday

Image
Monday was my Mother's birthday.  She loves flowers and like me, she loves about any shade of green.   I felt like this card was perfect for her! My go to paper for this card was Ivy Lane.  The green background is the Ivy Lane Green that is an exclusive color to this kit.  I used the Damask Embossing Folder (Z1927)  for the background.  I still had a few pieces of Ivy Lane stickease left over from my Look To Light Card Box and Cards project I did previously so I used them on my card.  By the way, I gave the box and set of card to my mom.  If you missed them, you can see that project HERE .   The metal flowers are from the retired Base & Bling Floral Accents.  "Happy Birthday" is stamped with Cocoa Ink.  This sentiment is from one of my favorite sets - " Joyful Birthday" (B1419) Ivy Lane Compliments (X7178C) Ivy Lane Paper (X7178B) Damask Embossing Folder (Z1927) Joyful Birt...

A Chevron Embossed Happy Birthday

Image
With this month's special - Get a FREE embossing folder with the purchase of 2 packs of cardstock (single color or combo), you are going to be seeing alot of embossed artwork on my blog!  I got my folders last week, and I just LOVE playing with them. Yesterday I created this card for my daughter's birthday.  She turned 24!  WOW..... hard to believe.  I came across the colors over at the Paper Players challenge and knew immediately that I wanted to use them for her card.  I combined the colors with the sketch over at the Sweetest Thing . The colors in the Paper Players challenge were Midnight Muse, Crisp Cantaloupe and Gold.  I used Close To My Heart's colors of Outdoor Denim, Sorbet and for my gold I used our Gold Polka Dot Washi Tape .  I adhered the washi tape to a piece of white cardstock and then cut it to the size I needed.   The polka dots were easy to line up so I was able to make the cardstock as wide as I needed. The birt...

Why it's Great to be 19

Image
Today is my daughter's birthday.   She told me the other that day that there just wasn't anything good about 19.   I asked her what she meant by that.   She said "19" is boring.   There is just nothing exciting about being 19.   She said when you turn 13 you are finally a "teen".  When you turn 16 that's exciting because now you get to drive.   When you turn 18, you are legally an adult.  When you turn 21, you are of legal age.  But when you turn 19, what is exciting about that? So in honor of Kayli's 19th Birthday, I'm going to give her a list of 10 reasons why it is great to be 19! 1. This is your last year to be considered a "TEENAGER". 2.  It is socially acceptable to still be living at home. 3. If you flipped the number "19" around, you'd be "61".  'nuff said about that. 4. You still have 6 more years to go before being kicked off your parents Insurance. 5.  You survived High School. 6...

A Huntington Birthday for Someone Special

Image
Today is my Mother In Law's Birthday.  I think the colors in this card are perfect for a November birthday.  As I was creating this card I thought about how Shelbie was really the one that started me on my road to creativity.   I kept a 'primitive' scrapbook in High School back in the 80's.  It was really before scrapbooking was popular - my album was from a Hallmark store!  After I got married and by the time my first daughter came along, Shelbie was trying her hand at about every kind of craft that was out there. She encouraged me to start a scrapbook for Kirsti.  I remember cringing the first time I cut a picture with those decorative scissors.  Remember those? wow....  Shelbie usually had the 1st of whatever new innovative product came on the market.  She convinced my husband that I needed a cricut.  Thank goodness she did, now I don't know what I would do without one!  She always created the most beautiful cards and mini al...
